L4-5 Windows Engineer (Citrix, VMWare)  - Emerson Electric Asia Ltd. ROHQ


We require an experienced Windows Engineer that is looking to work in a fully managed enterprise server environment. The engineer will be responsible for the design engineering of the hosted Windows platform in our Global Datacenter. They will translate architectural/conceptual designs and/or vendor technical specifications to detailed technical design specifications.   These designs are built with Emerson standard components and priced using approved component costs.   The engineer will work with a wide range of company stakeholders to insure consistency with overall Emerson architecture, operational and security standards, policies, procedures and direction.  Primary goal is to engineer system configurations that can be operated in a cost effective manner while maintaining the appropriate level of availability, performance and security. 

The role requires that the incumbent be the technical lead for Windows.
• Design enterprise infrastructure solutions in response to functional requirements that meet capacity and performance criteria
• Works on multiple simultaneous projects to implement new technologies and configurations
• Responsible for validation of proposed infrastructure solution and integration methodologies
• Contributes technical input for the architecting and designing of the server
• Serves as a technical consultant to divisions on server related requirements
• Serves as a ad-hoc representative of Global IT Operations in various technical meetings
• Provides fourth level support to ITSS service providers in troubleshooting and resolution of server issues
• Facilitate resolution and/or troubleshoot infrastructure related issues between multiple vendors and providers (internal and external)
• Conducts research, evaluations, develops recommendation and conducts testing related to emerging technologies; Develops partnership with Emerson’s Enterprise Architects and Architecture Review Board.
• Provide system configurations with ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) and committed pricing to ITSS and Divisions
• Develop and maintain detailed system build sheets used to be used for system installation and configuration
• Consult with system installation technicians through clarification and, as required, troubleshooting.
• Assist with system commissioning.  Sign off that systems are built as designed.
• Troubleshoot and reengineer existing system solutions as needed.
• Assist with the development of Emerson standard build configurations and pricing.
• Participate in various infrastructure related teams, councils, etc. as requested.
• Experience with designing Windows in a VMWare environment
• Experience with Windows on x86 Blade and rack mount servers.
• Experience with Windows running on an EMC Storage Area Network (SAN).
• Install/Troubleshoot/Replace hardware or firmware as necessary.
• In depth knowledge of components/services including AD, DNS, NTFS, DHCP, PRINT SERVICES, FTP, TCP/IP, Citrix and others.
• Wide range of systems infrastructure design and implementation experience, including Wintel, UNIX and Storage (IP/FC SAN) systems.
• Experience in planning for space, power, and cooling requirements.
• Working knowledge of WAN and LAN technologies including IP, Switches and Firewalls.
• Maintain a security strategy for the Windows server environment
• Provide standard operating procedures for Windows.
• Work with other ITSS groups, Division leads, consultants and other stakeholders to develop, test, and maintain procedures for Disaster Recovery (DR). Maintain technical DR readiness.
• Research new technologies and present recommendations/justifications on hardware and software purchases.


• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent work experience required.
• Windows experience and/or equivalent certification preferred.
• 7 to 10 years of Windows design/operational experience required.
• Experience working in a large datacenter is a plus (200+ servers)
• 3 years of VMWare or higher experience desired.
• MCSE or higher certifications preferred.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise production environment best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
• Active Directory experience is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
