A look at 5 in-Demand Jobs in Canada

As we continue to progress amid the global pandemic, job opportunities and in-demand jobs in Canada are slowly opening up.

The idea of working overseas has a lot of pros and cons, and with the sort of "soft reset" that we experienced over the past year, this might be a good time to look into it.

While earning in a foreign currency has been the main motivation for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to seek "greener pastures" elsewhere, permanently migrating and starting anew in a different country is fast becoming another reason for exploring opportunities overseas.

Filipinos have been seeking in-demand jobs in Canada--and for good reason. The country has emerged as one of the top destinations for OFWs looking to migrate. In their latest census, Canada reported that Filipinos made up 15.58% of the total new immigrants.

The North American country is considered one of the best countries to migrate to because of the incredible natural sceneries, as well as excellent healthcare and education systems.

There are several routes to consider when moving to Canada, with the most popular being the Express Entry System. It was established to address the shortage of skilled workers in the country.

You don't need to worry if you don't have the required skills, as they can be acquired through short vocational courses or training programs.

You would need to create an online profile which will be scored through a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) by their immigration department. Your profile will then be part of the pool where they draw talents from, and if selected, you will receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency.

What are the most in-demand job opportunities now? Here are five to consider!

1. Mechanic (starts at $38,000.00/year)

Based on the latest list from POEA-licensed recruitment agencies, mechanics have the most valid job orders for Canada.

Most of the openings are for trucks and heavy duty equipment, which require more technical skills. However, there are also openings for non-specific mechanics, which could be suited for auto or general mechanics.

Depending on experience and skill, jobs could potentially pay up to $70,000.00 a year.  Â

2. Food Service/Fast Food Supervisor (starts at $25,000.00/year)

Hotel and Restaurant Management degree holders who have supervisory experience may have the necessary skills required by these openings. Don't worry though, there are also entry-level jobs for those with little to no experience. Â

You can choose this path as a temporary job in a new country, but progressing in the industry could be something to consider. A manager position could potentially pay up to $50,000.00 a year.

3. Caregiver (starts at $23,000.00/year)

Filipino nurses are known globally for their work ethic, professionalism, and genuine care for their patients. As such, they are in high demand practically everywhere.Â

However, being a registered nurse in the Philippines doesn't mean the same in Canada.

Exploring opportunities as a caregiver could be the opening that you need to put one foot in the door. You can also equip yourself with the necessary skills required through TESDA-accredited training centers.

Gaining experience as a caregiver in Canada can help raise your hourly rate. With experience, you can potentially earn about $40,000 a year.

4. Truck Driver (starts at $37,000.00/year)

Driving trucks require a certain degree of skill that is sometimes underappreciated. It is an extremely noble job that entails long, lonely drives across the country that could last for days on the road.

It's no surprise then that not a lot of Canadians are lining up to take trucking jobs. This bodes well for our fellow Filipinos who wish to earn well with their truck driving skills.

It does require a lot of sacrifice, but it could be handsomely rewarded, with an annual salary that could reach about $70,000.00 with experience.

5. Customer Service Advisor (starts at $28,000.00/year)

The BPO industry in the Philippines has thrived because of the rich talent pool that we have. Exploring opportunities in Canada can be a win-win situation, as they are looking to fill out these roles.Â

As you gain experience in the local industry, you can earn up to $60,000.00 annually.

It won't be easy to face the hard truths of working in a different country. However, if you decide that the advantages are worth taking the risk, then you could take steps into considering these opportunities

Beware of people taking advantage of people making the move though! Searching through credible channels such as JobStreet or Workabroad can help ensure that the opening is from a recruitment agency that is accredited by the POEA. Update your JobStreet profile and start searching today!
