CRP Articles 1200x775-basic-resume Cliché as it is, with a possible future in your dream job on the line, you should set your best foot forward through your resume because it is your first impression to the employers.

It is that one (or two-pages max) page paper that determines your future (or lack, hereof) in a company you applied in. That document can also help decide the recruiter whether they'd like to hear more from you in the form of an interview or simply chuck your resume to the recycle bin folder of their PCs.

Having that said, most people come up with festive resumes and lengthy ones. But employers would not have all the time in the world to scan and read through a resume that looks more of a manual. Thus, you should come up with a simple resume format, yes, simple, but would also give your employers a the-search-is-over impression.

Here are some tips on how you can start with a simple-formatted resume.

1. Surf the net

You might be spending hours on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube, but I'm, telling you, this is the best time for you to use the best internet browser you've got. Start small first, choosing a resume format that would best suit the position you are applying for. Resumes come in many moods and it is important for you to choose the most appropriate one.

See, if you are applying for a position, anything related to art, your resume must speak for yourself, it needs to reflect how creative you are. Same thing for any other job postings you are going to apply for.

2. Know how to identify 'extras'

As mentioned, in a resume, you are putting your best foot forward. And in doing that, you don't have to overwhelm the content of your resume with all the best information about you. You must have the skills in identifying what the extras are versus the necessary. Focus on the information and details that are related to the position you are applying for.

You may have gazillions of achievements or affiliations which you really find outstanding, but remember, no matter how outstanding they are, you should choose only the necessary - those that you think will bring something extraordinary on the table but also will be of extreme relevance.

3. Be formal

Since you are trying to make your resume simple, one best tip is making it formal. A one or two-page resume with standard margins, font and font size minus all the colors will do. If you are thinking of having it dark blue or green, forget about it. A nice black font color and black lines if necessary is a good way to go. This also includes the terms that you are going to use.

You would not want your employers to read a resume turned into a literary piece. Just use business terms and appropriate words from top to bottom, no metaphors and overly creative descriptions. Relevant jargons can be used too, but not too much.
