Resume tips for fresh graduates with engineering degrees

With thousands of new engineering students graduating every year, you need every advantage in your arsenal to ensure that your resume gets a second look from prospective employers. You need to stand out from among the other unlicensed and with little experience engineering fresh graduates, which is a lot easier than it looks if you know which areas to highlight in your resume and which areas to include.

Please read the following for some resume tips and a format that you can follow to better highlight your strengths.

1. Attention to detail is important

For a field that regularly deals with electrical or mechanical tools, a simple mistake can be highly disastrous to a project and can even result to injuries. This translates to paying close attention to your resume's contents. No employer would hire an engineer with a sloppy resume, much more a fresh graduate with so little experience. Proofread your resume before sending it to hirers or even better, have one of your loved ones take a look at it to spot things that you might have missed.

2. Highlight your key skills and knowledge areas

Dedicate a part of your resume for the skills and the knowledge areas that you excel at. Most likely, you and your fellow unlicensed engineers with little to no experience have the same things on your resume. This section will set you apart from them and you can also use this to show the recruiters that you're the engineer they're looking for by basing this on the description of the job posting that you're applying for.

3. Indicate the software you're proficient in using

You also need to show your future employer the software that you know how to use and the level of competency that you have for each one of them. You can base the software you mention here on the job description and requirements that the employer included on his/her job ad.
