creative resume

It goes without saying that the resume could make or break a creative’s job prospect. This goes for all the professionals involved in one way or another in creative fields: artists, web designers, art directors, and even copywriters. For fresh graduates with little experience, it can be doubly harder to stand out, but it is possible.

You can be as creative as you want, without being over the top, with the design. Check out these design tips that can help make recruiters notice your resume. In a good way, of course.

The layout is very crucial

A grid structure can be very helpful when you’re designing your resume since you need to visually separate your content into digestible chunks that shouldn’t look like eyesores. For hiring managers who go through tons if resumes every day, a well-organized and easy to read resume is a welcome relief.

Utilize columns to maximize space

Recruiters hate resumes that are more than one page long, especially from fresh graduates who don’t really have that much experience. To maximize space, use columns. All they want to see is how fit you are for the position you’re applying for, after all.

Infographics are handy

The layout and the saved space will be for naught if your creative resume is lacking in, well, creativity. You can use icons to indicate your skills or hobbies, simple charts and graphs to show your skill level, and timelines for your previous work experience or achievements. For the color scheme, keep it minimal and pared-back.

Make it personal

Chances are, your fellow fresh graduate jobseeker is also reading this guide, nullifying whatever advantage you initially had. To remedy this, inject your personality into your resume. You can do this by adding a personal signature or including a short, but witty bio to your resume.

Go digital if possible

You’ll get additional brownie points if you have a personal website that shows off your designing skills. Just don’t forget to make your website mobile-responsive.

Below is a sample of the content you can put on your resume.
