What's it like to be a Human Resources Manager?
A Human Resources Manager is an experienced HR professional who directs the policies and tasks of the HR team in a company. They are usually promoted from junior positions such as Human Resources Officer, Payroll Officer, or Recruiter. They are in charge of planning and executing the HR policies of a company, as well as hiring and onboarding new employees.
Tasks and duties
- Designing human resources policies that are in line with the goals of a company.
- Overseeing the recruitment, application, hiring, and onboarding processes of new employees.
- Planning and delegating responsibilities for company events.
- Coordinating between employees and higher management for concerns.
- Deciding the course of action and disciplinary measures for employee incidents.
- Developing training programs for employees to address the needs of the company.
- Creating an assessment, retention and benefits criteria for evaluating employees.
How to become a Human Resources Manager
Around five years of experience, a track record of good results as a HR professional, and often a postgraduate degree are required for Human Resources Managers. Obtaining certifications and attending seminars in human resources are also advantageous.
- 1.Graduate from a bachelor degree program in human resources, psychology, behavioral science or another related field.
- 2.Undergo an internship in the human resources department of a company for on-the-job experience. If accessible, join a management trainee program. Many multinational companies in the Philippines offer this.
- 3.Apply for an entry level position in the HR department of a company, such as Human Resources Assistant, Payroll Assistant, or Human Resource Generalist.
- 4.Demonstrate a track record of good performance and results for a company. Through this, you can gain years of experience in the HR industry and get promoted to Human Resources Manager.
- 5.Consider getting a postgraduate degree in human resources to increase eligibility for a management position.
- 6.Become a Certified Human Resources Professional by passing the CHRP certification course and getting international recognition as a HR professional.
- 7.Pursue continuing education, such as HR seminars in labor law, employee discipline, or organization development.
