What's it like to be a Security Analyst?
Security Analysts maintain the privacy and security of a company’s data, and carry out security measures should the data be at risk from hackers and viruses. These cybersecurity professionals typically work at technology, financial, and large business corporations.
Tasks and duties
- Monitoring data access points.
- Recording incidents and action taken.
- Auditing internal and external data channels.
- Analyzing risk of data being breached.
- Assessing security of external vendors.
- Reporting the root cause of data breaches.
- Proposing improvements to the security system.
How to become a Security Analyst
A formal education and two to five years of experience in the data science industry is often required for this role.
- 1.Graduate with a bachelor degree in cybersecurity, data science, information technology, computer science/engineering, or another related field.
- 2.Complete a data science related internship at a recognized company.
- 3.Apply as a Data Analyst or similar entry-level position to gain industry experience.
- 4.Get promoted to higher positions such as Senior Security Analyst, or Chief Information Security Officer.
- 5.Consider obtaining a postgraduate degree in information security.
