What's it like to be an Accounting Manager?
An Accounting Manager supervises a team of Accountants to gather, analyze, verify, and report financial transactions. Their role is to drive timely and accurate processing of transactional activities which can be collated and summarized in timely financial reports.
Tasks and duties
- Overseeing financial activities of a business against operation budgets.
- Leading report generation to provide information on the financial health of an organization.
- Evaluating financial processes to ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Assessing profit and liability performance to help manage budgets.
Accounting Managers understand the working relationship between billing, invoicing, disbursement, taxation, collection, and budgeting of finances for an organization. Their work helps provide the foundation for financial planning to keep a business running. They also use analytical thinking skills in assessing and processing several types of financial information to be able to measure how finances are utilized in operations, maintenance, and growth of an organization. Accounting Managers also keep abreast of current accounting standards and best practices that are used in their field.
How to become an Accounting Manager
To land this role, you will need to have three to five years of proven experience in managing a team responsible for financial reporting and management.
- 1.Complete a degree in accounting. This typically requires three to four years of education.
- 2.Gain management experience by showing leadership qualities in managing a team of Accountants.
- 3.Gain experience planning budgets, enforcing policies, streamlining processing of transactions, and other relevant tasks.
- 4.Take the Certified Public Accountants Licensure exam conducted by the Board of Accountants and supervised by the Professional Regulatory Commission in the Philippines.
- 5.Consider finishing a masters degree in accountancy to help advance your career and open up more management opportunities such as Chief Financial Officer or Chief Investment Officer.
