What's it like to be a Data Scientist?
A Data Scientist analyzes data to solve problems. Data Scientists can be employed in a number of fields, from finance and banking, to healthcare, sports and information technology. They use programming tools and machine learning to gather information from both structured and unstructured data. Then they use this data to create actionable plans and develop best practices for an organization.
Tasks and duties
- Automating data analysis processes.
- Identifying opportunities and problems using data.
- Collecting large sets of structured and unstructured data for analysis.
- Generating a hypothesis based on the data collected.
- Analyzing large volumes of data to find trends and patterns.
- Modeling and deploying data.
- Communicating findings with other team members.
How to become a Data Scientist
You usually need a degree and experience to become a Data Scientist. Industry certifications can improve your employability.
- 1.Complete a degree in BS Computer Science (BSCS), BS Information Technology (BSIT), BS Information Systems (BSIS) or a degree in a related field such as statistics or mathematics.
- 2.Undertake an internship. This will be helpful in gaining on-the-ground experience at a company. Seek roles that focus on key skills such as programming, statistics and mathematics.
- 3.Consider pursuing a specialization or certification in data science or complete a masters degree in the field.
