A Medical Officer is a senior Physician in charge of supervising healthcare services within their respective department, managing medical team members to ensure proper patient care, and providing guidance as a clinical advisor. By overseeing their fellow healthcare professionals, they ensure that proper patient care is provided for all patients in alignment with hospital and government standards. Medical Officers also provide medical support through appropriate clinical advice and investigation. A Medical Officer may also lead medical programs like clinical trials and research. They blend their medical expertise with health administration skills to ensure the success of their department.

How to become a Medical Officer
A Medical Officer is a managerial role for senior Physicians. A pre-medicine undergraduate degree, such as biology, medical technology, or other relevant fields, is required. Medical Officers must then pass the National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) to apply and qualify for medical school. They must graduate with a Doctor of Medicine degree and become licensed. A Medical Officer must have at least 1 year of relevant work experience in medicine. A master’s degree in public health, health education, or business administration may be an advantage.
Acquire a pre-medicine undergraduate degree in Biology, Medical Technology, or other related fields.
Pass the National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) and apply to a medical school.
Graduate from medical school with a Doctor of Medicine degree.
Become a licensed doctor by passing the Philippine Physician Licensure Exam.
Complete residency at a hospital or clinic.
Consider getting a master’s degree in public health or health education.
