Programmers oversee the maintenance and development of an organization’s systems, software and computing infrastructure. They also monitor system performance and provide technical support by reviewing and modifying existing programs. They identify defects and ensure that everything is user-friendly and can be optimized efficiently. Programmers are also responsible for making status updates and reports regarding the functionality of programs.

- Designing, coding, and debugging applications.
- Creating and monitoring computer structures.
- Performing software testing to reveal quality assurance.
- Integrating application and content, including third party software.
- Maintaining and documenting software functionality.
- Solving problems and being methodical in implementing testing processes.
- Writing computer instructions and making sure that they are understood by laymen.

How to become a Programmer
To excel in this field, you have to possess a formal education and sufficient experience.
- 1.Take the STEM strand (Science, Technology, and Mathematics) during the last two years of high school. Taking additional courses in computer science, if available, may be a great introduction to the career.
- 2.Take a bachelor degree in computer science, or a related field such as information technology, network administration, or software development. Taking a four-year program can help you acquire general knowledge about certain areas like report writing and critical thinking. This will also be a good time to hone your skills with HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
- 3.While studying, it would be a good idea to consider taking internships or starting your own projects. Building an impressive portfolio could help you stand out to future employers.
- 4.If you want to look for employment in healthcare, you can get certifications by taking some classes.
