What's it like to be a Surveyor?
Surveyors are Engineers who take measurements of large areas of land using mathematical equations to plot maps. Most Surveyors work in construction, or with bodies of land and water for the government and industrial farming industries.
Tasks and duties
- Determining property boundaries with surveying equipment.
- Plotting maps for presentation to colleagues and clients.
- Analyzing sketches, maps, charts and graphs relating to a property.
- Inspecting and updating previous surveying records for accuracy.
- Designing new surveying methods.
- Researching legal requirements for properties.
- Liaising with Architects and other Engineers to coordinate measurements.
How to become a Surveyor
A bachelor degree and PRC license are required to work as a Surveyor. Taking the STEM strand in Senior High School and maintaining high grades in trigonometry are advantageous for the role.
- Graduate with a bachelor degree in civil engineering, geodetic engineering, architecture, or another related field.
- Complete an engineering or architecture internship at a recognized company.
- Pass the PRC Licensure Examination in Civil Engineering. You must achieve an average of no less than 75%, with a score of at least 50% per subject.
- Get promoted to higher positions, such as Chief Surveyor.
