Who Paid Fresh Graduates the Highest?

Just graduated? If salary is a major job-hunting factor, check out the Top 10 industries that give the highest pay for entry-level roles. These jobs are open for fresh graduates because they require less than a year of experience.

Telecommunication slightly outdid the IT (Information Technology) and Computer-Related industry in salaries for inexperienced employees. Other fields that made it to the Top 10 are Communication Services, Insurance, Hospitality, and Consumer Goods.

Education and Training tied with Healthcare in the top spot for the highest-paying jobs for new graduates. As a result of the pandemic, distance learning emerged. And, as the health crisis impacted jobs, workers hastened to reskill, which may explain why these workers’ salaries increased. According to the Decoding Global Talent Report, 77% of Filipino workers are willing to retrain for new jobs.

But pandemic or not, IT and Computer-Related retains its high spot on the list of top-compensating jobs and industries. In the last 2016 JobStreet Salary Report, it snagged the top spot, followed by Actuarial and Statistics, and Law and Legal Services. These latter industries are no longer found in the current top 10.

10 Reasons Why You Should Apply as an IT Professional

IT has become an attractive career because of its adaptability and dynamic nature. Here are the reasons why you should consider building a career in IT.

1. It’s the highest-earning industry and specialization.

This is one of the key findings of the JobStreet Salary report. Because IT is the top earner, you can expect jobs that fall under it to have good compensation. Even in the coming years, IT is predicted to flourish further, which translates to salary increases in this industry in the coming years.

2. It’s in demand.

During the pandemic, businesses quickly realized that to survive and thrive, they needed to fast-track their digital transformation. Services and products should be accessible online for the sake of not just convenience but also health and safety. To future-proof their business, companies need IT professionals more than ever to beef up their tech processes.

3. It offers flexibility.

Because tech employees are sought after, they can demand flexibility. According to the Decoding the Digital Challenge Report, 95% of the world’s digital talent value work-life balance, preferring fully or partially remote work.

4. You’re not limited by geography.

Thanks to the rise of remote work, you don’t have to be in the same place as your employer. You can even be employed by foreign companies without leaving the country! This global access to IT-related jobs opens up more work opportunities, affording you the luxury of choice.

5. Its salaries remain competitive despite the size of the organization.

Another notable discovery from the JobStreet Salary Report is that SMEs (small to medium enterprises) and big companies offer competitive pay for IT workers. While some SMEs suffered because of the pandemic, the IT jobs in these organizations have come out even stronger to fill specialized roles in the job market.

6. It’s relevant across industries.

IT isn’t tied to any particular industry, which means you can graduate from a computer-related course and work almost anywhere. In fact, the JobStreet Salary report states specific industries—such as manufacturing and construction— that IT jobs thrive in. 7. It has an attractive work culture.

Companies are realizing what tech workers want and they’re adjusting their work environments to accommodate these preferences. For instance, the Decoding Global Talent Report says that today’s jobseekers look for a company’s values before sending their applications. More than half (58%) declared that they would avoid employers that don’t value diversity and environment awareness.

Technology is always changing, so you need to continuously learn tools and processes to keep your skills marketable. While this keeps you on your toes, it also enriches your knowledge, making you even desirable to employers.
