What's it like to be a Network Engineer?
Network Engineers play a key role in the development of hardware and software in a computer network, such as servers and firewalls. Network Engineers build computer networks, troubleshoot any problems that may arise, oversee mechanisms that relate to digital security and ensure that the system works at an optimal pace. A Network Engineer is expected to work with other IT staff to better understand the network infrastructure that a business may require.
Tasks and duties
- Building, configuring and maintaining computer networks and systems.
- Installing network equipment to update or fix hardware or software issues.
- Troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues.
- Planning and implementing security measures to protect the network and its data.
- Monitoring computer systems to identify bugs.
- Replacing malfunctioning network hardware components as needed.
- Updating virus protection software.
How to become a Network Engineer
To become a Network Engineer, you need a degree in computer engineering, information technology, or another similar field. A masters degree can help you progress to a higher position.
- 1.Complete a four or five-year bachelor degree in computer engineering, information technology, or another similar field.
- 2.Gain experience in a relevant role. You could seek a placement during or after your degree to work alongside experienced Network Engineers.
- 3.Consider advancing your skills with a masters degree in computer engineering.
