What's it like to be a Packer?
Packers are employed in warehouses, manufacturing centers, packing houses and other similar settings. Upon receiving order invoices, Packers locate requested items from storage and prepare them for delivery. These warehouse employees make sure that items are in good condition before arranging them in containers or boxes. Packers also check items for defects, and maintain records of goods and shipments.
Tasks and duties
- Collecting goods specified on order invoices.
- Assessing the quality of items to be shipped.
- Separating damaged and defective items.
- Ensuring that shipping boxes or containers meet safety guidelines.
- Cleaning or repackaging items before they are packed.
- Keeping track of material inventory.
- Lifting and loading packages.
- Sorting out items for delivery by location or category.
How to become a Packer
You don’t need a formal qualification to become a Packer. On-the-job training is usually provided.
- 1.Finish at least secondary education. Many warehouses are open to hiring senior high school (SHS) graduates. Strong reading and math skills are beneficial for Packers, who weigh and label goods.
- 2.Obtain relevant licenses as required, such as a commercial driving license.
