What's it like to be a Web Designer?
Web Designers design the visual elements of a website while ensuring that the site is easy to navigate. They employ both expertise in user interface (UI) and visual design. For this reason, Web Designers require both technical and creative skills. Web Designers work in computer systems design firms, software publishing companies, technical consulting firms, and advertising and marketing agencies. Some Web Designers are self-employed and work from home.
Tasks and duties
- Researching, designing and prototyping web pages.
- Employing best practices for optimum design and ease of use.
- Collaborating with writers and web developers.
- Working with marketing and market research teams to integrate brand elements.
- Creating visuals, graphics or animations.
- Testing websites.
- Updating and refreshing existing sites.
How to become a Web Designer
Many Website Designers have a bachelor degree in a related field. Certificate courses on web design can also develop your skills.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree in IT, website design or a related field.
- 2.Alternatively, take a certificate course on web design.
- 3.Gain experience. Build a portfolio of your best work. A strong portfolio will make you more employable.
- 4.Consider advancing your qualifications by taking short courses on coding and user experience (UX).
