What's it like to be an Administration Clerk?
Administration Clerks, sometimes called Administration Assistants, take care of clerical work in an office so that employees or administrative staff can work more efficiently. Their tasks often include recording and disseminating information to clients or within the office. It is a more advanced position than a Receptionist as more tasks are given, and Administration Clerks are usually all around the office supporting a variety of functions and departments, instead of staying in one place.
Tasks and duties
- Responding to customer phone calls, emails, and other forms of contact.
- Addressing customer inquiries, orders, complaints or any other information related to the business of the company.
- Coordinating tasks and schedules among employees.
- Filing and managing company records
- Scheduling and recording appointments, meetings, and company events.
- Handling office equipment such as printers, scanners, photocopiers, and computers.
How to become an Administration Clerk
An Administration Clerk is considered an entry level position. However, sufficient knowledge of the company’s operations is necessary for the job, which will typically be provided during training. Good organizational skills and the ability to multitask are key for the position.
- Consider completing a bachelor degree in any related field, such as business administration, accounting, or human resources.
- Complete an internship in an office to gain experience. Prior work history is helpful in securing a job.
- Master common office software such as Google Suite and Microsoft. These are used by Administration Clerks on a daily basis. Experience using photocopiers and scanner machines may also be beneficial. Good communication skills are essential.
