Content Writers write content for digital and print media. After researching details such as business goals, trends and unique selling points, they produce written content for a business’s target market. Whether they are writing product information or lifestyle-oriented material related to a product, Content Writers always aim to capture the interest of readers and customers. They need to be adaptable and capable of changing their writing style to match business needs.
Tasks and duties
- Conducting research online or through interviews and surveys.
- Preparing content outlines and presenting them to the Content Editor or Content Manager.
- Suggesting topics that engage the target market.
- Writing accurate and original content for print and digital platforms.
- Utilizing SEO best practices.
- Gathering feedback and revising accordingly.
- Being updated on industry and consumer trends.
Content Writers may work freelance, in an outside firm, or in a company’s marketing or advertising department. They may work with a Content Editor, Content Manager or clients to brainstorm possible content that meets an organization’s objectives and reflects their vision. Many hirers prefer Content Writers who are knowledgeable in SEO (search engine optimization), which enable articles to rank high in search engines.
How to become a Content Writer
To craft effective material, Content Writers must have specific skills which can be developed through education and training. A formal education is not essential, but may be advantageous.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree. Employers usually prefer graduates of communication arts, journalism, marketing and related fields.
- 2.Continuously hone your writing skills. Take writing classes or be part of a writing group, so you can improve your craft.
- 3.Gain work experience. Some companies are open to hiring graduates and students as Content Writers.
- 4.With enough experience, a Content Writer can move up to being a Content Manager or Content Strategist. Postgraduate studies in writing, marketing or media can help you create pathways to more senior roles.
