What's it like to be an Operations Administrator?
Operations Administrators perform the day-to-day tasks to run a company’s operations. They typically report to the Operations Manager and provide support by answering telephone, email and face-to-face inquiries, overseeing office maintenance, filing financial and services documents, recording inventory, and other tasks as assigned. Operations Administrators commonly work at offices in nearly every industry, although remote work is also available. Customer service, organization and problem-solving skills are essential to the role.
Tasks and duties
- Responding to customer inquiries.
- Documenting meeting minutes, transactions and customer records.
- Encoding and updating company databases.
- Distributing company-wide notices and announcements.
- Managing inventory of office supplies and equipment.
- Scheduling meetings and organizing events.
- Supervising office maintenance crew and tasks.
This is an entry-level job for candidates who are computer proficient and ideally have experience in administrative and customer service tasks. Emotional intelligence is an advantage, as Operations Administrators will be working with people in various departments and position levels.
How to become an Operations Administrator
A bachelor degree in a relevant field is required to work as an Operations Administrator.
Graduate with a bachelor degree in business administration, human resources, organizational communication or another related field.
Complete an internship in the administrative department at the office of a recognized company.
Gain administrative experience by participating in school organizations, managing a small business, and volunteering for projects and events.
Get promoted to higher positions such as Office Supervisor, Administration Manager or Operations Manager.
Consider completing a Master of Business Administration.
