What's it like to be a Civil Engineer?
Apart from creating design plans for infrastructure, a Civil Engineer may act as the overall manager of a private or public construction project, supervising everything from planning and design, to the daily activities onsite. Civil Engineers can be involved in the creation of airports, bridges, irrigation systems, roads and power plants.
Tasks and duties
- Evaluating the feasibility of potential site locations.
- Creating designs using software programs.
- Overseeing the management of the construction budget.
- Conducting inspections and ensuring strict compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Addressing and solving any safety and construction issues that may arise.
- Coordinating with clients and other professionals working on the project.
How to become a Civil Engineer
To work as a Civil Engineer, formal education and a license are required.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree in civil engineering.
- 2.Pass the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) licensure exam for civil engineering to secure a license and be able to practice the profession.
- 3.Gain experience working on public or private construction projects such as those in the structural, geo technical, transportation, water resources and construction industries.
