What's it like to be a Financial Analyst?
A Financial Analyst is in charge of tracking a company’s financial performance, analyzing data to identify business opportunities and forecasting financial outcomes. A Financial Analyst is also responsible for coming up with financial reports that include key metrics, financial risk, and financial results. They provide guidance to executive managers which helps them make better financial decisions.

- Analyzing financial data.
- Providing forecasting and reporting to senior management.
- Coordinating with other team members to review financial data and consulting with them about major financial decisions.
- Creating, compiling, and submitting financial reports, preparing key metrics and investment opportunities.
- Projecting and analyzing financial performance trends, as well as financial risk.
- Providing financial models that help with decision-making.
- Helping develop strategies that minimize financial risk.
- Evaluating business records and profit plans.
A Financial Analyst is expected to be detail-oriented, with an ability to project future financial trends that are backed by rigorous research.
How to become a Financial Analyst
Finance Analysts can hold any degree, but must be good at crunching numbers. For this reason, those with a mathematics or finance-related degree may have some advantage. Having some years of experience in the field of finance is also a plus when it comes to hiring.
- 1.Take the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) strand in senior high school. Your math subjects will provide you with the foundation needed to pursue a career as a Financial Analyst.
- 2.Obtain a college degree, preferably in any of the following fields: finance, accountancy, economics, business administration, or applied mathematics.
- 3.Consider completing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree or a Master of Science in Finance (MSF) degree.
- 4.Look for employment opportunities in a finance-related field. Start by getting an internship at a financial company.
- 5.Gain work experience in the field.
