What's it like to be a Quality Analyst?
Quality Analysts, also known as Quality Assurance Analysts, are tasked with ensuring the quality of new products and services through a series of tests, examinations, and benchmarks. Quality Analysts are guided by a company’s quality guidelines and are responsible for ensuring all projects meet the minimum quality standards. Quality Analysts can work in an office or from home, communicating with teammates, and executing quality assurance tests to review new products and services. Quality Analysts can work in a number of industries, such as technology, engineering, or pharmaceuticals.
Tasks and duties
- Identifying any issues, bugs, or defects of a product or service.
- Remedying issues by recommending preventive or corrective actions.
- Creating and implementing quality assurance tests to determine the functionality and quality of a product or service.
- Testing the reliability and performance of a product or service.
- Analyzing test results and reading statistical data.
- Ensuring all products and services meet the standards of a company.
- Creating quality assurance policies and guidelines.
- Creating conclusive reports on quality assurance tests.
- Investigating customer complaints.
- Complying with industry regulations.
Quality Analysts must possess strong analytical skills, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. After reviewing products and services, Quality Analysts must also provide comprehensive and understandable feedback. As such, they must also possess strong communication skills as they tend to work in teams.
How to become a Quality Analyst
Quality Analysts are advised to hold a bachelor degree to ensure career growth, particularly in the industry they want to work in. For example, Quality Analysts in tech are encouraged to have an IT or computer engineering degree.
- Take the STEM strand (Science, Technology, and Mathematics) during the last two years of high school. This will get you started on the track of data science.
- Pursue a bachelor degree in a business, logistics, technology, or engineering discipline.
- Complete on-the-job training during your fourth year of college in the field of your choice.
- Apply for an entry-level position in the quality assurance field.
- Gain years of experience and to get promoted to the position of Quality Analyst.
