What's it like to be a Recruitment Officer?
Recruitment Officers advertise open job positions, and source talent that is eligible and suitable for a company. They are also responsible for attracting, hiring, and retaining the best employees while growing a pool of talent. Recruitment Officers review resumes, match skills to the requirements of a job, and interview candidates until they find just what an employer is looking for.
Tasks and duties
- Identifying future hiring needs and developing job descriptions and specifications.
- Collaborating with department managers to compile a consistent list of requirements.
- Attracting suitable candidates through databases, online employment forums, and social media.
- Conducting interviews and sorting through applicants to fill open positions.
- Assessing an applicant’s knowledge, skills, and experience to suit open positions.
- Completing paperwork for new hires.
- Managing internship programs.
- Keeping up-to-date on current employment legislation and regulations, and enforcing them within the company.
- Providing recruitment reports to team managers.
How to become a Recruitment Officer
There is no formal qualification required to become a Recruitment Officer. However, employers prefer applicants with a bachelor degree in human resources, business, communications, marketing, or a related field. In addition, agencies or companies looking for a Recruitment Officer may choose applicants with proficiency in database software and online job boards.
- Obtain a bachelor degree. You can pursue a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Human Resource Development Management (BSBA HRDM), Bachelor of Science in Business Management (BSBM), Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BA in Communication), or Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Marketing Management (BSBA in Marketing Management) These are all four-year degree programs.
- In your senior year, or during the fourth year of the program, you will be required to attend On-the-Job Training (OJT) in various corporate and business companies. Exposure to actual work settings will help you put into practice the theories and principles you’ve learnt.
- If you wish to work in government, you may opt to take the Civil Service Examination (CSE) conducted by the Philippine Civil Service Commission (PCSC) to qualify to work in government offices.
- You can also register for a certification program such as the Certified Recruitment and Selection Professional (CRSP) Certification Program.
- If you wish to gain expertise in the industry, you can take a masters degree.
