What's it like to be a Project Coordinator?
Project Coordinators collaborate with other staff members to ensure the overall success of a project. They oversee the workflow, and monitor the schedule and staff workload to ensure that a project adheres to the timeline. Project Coordinators also try to sustain a good relationship with all stakeholders. They are able to multitask to accommodate the urgencies that arise in a fast paced environment.
Tasks and duties
- Coordinating with the sales and project team to know the requirements of the project.
- Collating reports to chart progress and to address any possible or persisting issues.
- Overseeing customer relation activities to ensure transparency.
- Tracking expenditures and transactions.
- Scheduling meetings with the entire team to discuss the current status of the project.
- Updating social media platforms and websites to boost the visibility of the project.
How to become a Project Coordinator
While a formal education is not necessary to become a Project Coordinator, it may be preferred by some employers. Prior experience will also greatly affect your chances of employment.
- Take the ABM strand (Accountancy, Business, and Management) during your senior high school. With this strand, you will learn the basic principles of business and management.
- Consider completing a bachelor degree in business administration. During this time, you will be equipped with the skills essential for a Project Coordinator, such as time management, basic computer skills, and communication.
- Complete on-the-job training. It’s important for Project Coordinators to familiarize themselves with the environment and how it operates.
