What's it like to be a Restaurant Manager?
A Restaurant Manager leads a restaurant’s staff to ensure customers have a good experience in their establishment. They are tasked with overseeing the day-to-day operations, staff assignments and schedules, and supply deliveries. Restaurant Managers also address customer concerns, restaurant emergencies, and staff inquiries. They file necessary paperwork, keep track of staff shifts, talk to customers, and fill in for any absent staff members. They typically spend the day on their feet or behind a desk.

- Overseeing back-of-the-house and front-of-the-house operations.
- Creating and keeping track of shift schedules.
- Monitoring operational costs.
- Handling reservations.
- Addressing any customer concerns.
- Greeting VIP customers.
- Fostering a positive environment for staff and customers.
- Ensuring all customers are receiving quality customer service.
- Recruiting, training, and supervising staff.
- Conducting performance appraisals.
- Promoting staff when deserved.
- Optimizing productivity of staff.
- Monitoring inventory and delivery schedules.
- Ensuring food quality.
- Communicating with vendors and suppliers.
- Complying with health and safety regulations.
Restaurant Managers must have extensive knowledge and experience in the food and beverage industry, and typically start out as waiters or cooks before climbing the ladder to Restaurant Manager.

Restaurant Managers are advised to hold a bachelor degree to ensure career growth.
