What's it like to be an Engineering Technician?
Engineering Technicians use applied scientific and technical knowledge to assist Engineers in implementing designs and solutions in a wide range of industries. These professionals typically work in teams, conducting experiments, collecting data, and helping Engineers solve technical problems in research and development, manufacturing, construction, inspection, and maintenance. Sometimes, they also operate and maintain equipment used for testing. Given their diverse roles, Engineering Technicians may have expertise in several areas, such as electromechanical systems, civil engineering, or industrial technology.
Tasks and duties
- Assisting Engineers with the design, testing, and manufacturing of complex machinery or products.
- Interpreting and implementing design specifications and technical drawings.
- Performing experiments and collecting data for engineering projects.
- Analyzing and interpreting data to provide feedback and modifications for projects.
- Conducting quality control checks to ensure that products meet required safety and quality standards.
- Providing technical support and problem-solving advice to clients or coworkers.
- Maintaining and repairing specialized equipment and machines.
